Fifth Grade Resources: Library Databases

NCpedia highlights North Carolina's unique resources, people, and culture to enrich, educate and inform. It is coordinated and managed by the North Carolina Government & Heritage Library at the State Library of North Carolina, a part of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The encyclopedia contains articles covering a broad spectrum of topics and resources about North Carolina, including: historical time periods, subjects, and events; biographies, including North Carolina’s governors; counties and government; geography and environment; business and economy; historical places and monuments; natural resources and natural heritage; and many others. NCpedia also includes thousands of images.

Scholastic GO! contains more than 115,000 articles covering every core-curriculum subject. The articles and their illustrations are derived from the content of seven Scholastic encyclopedia databases: Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, Amazing Animals of the World, and The New Book of Popular Science.

NC Kids Digital Library offers e-books, audiobooks, streaming videos, and Read-Alongs. This collection was specifically designed for youth ages pre-K through 4th grade and includes picture books, youth fiction, youth nonfiction, and more. Browsing can be done by subject, format or genre, and the advanced search feature allows filtering by availability, language, date added, and much more. Titles are accessed via OverDrive. OverDrive eReading Room: Kids Collection offers e-books, digital audiobooks, and streaming videos. The Kids Collection includes picture books, youth fiction, youth nonfiction, and more. Kids can browse, sample, place holds and borrow titles appropriate for their age range and reading level. No adult content will appear in the search results.
